This match saw Sidmouth build up a good lead by the final quarter thanks to their superior pace and handling playing an open game in wet underfoot conditions. However, with 20 minutes to go the strong New Cross forwards began to take control scoring 17 unanswered point to earn a draw and a bonus point.

Most of the first half was played out in the New Cross half as the Quins took control. Dan Retter opened the scoring after ten minutes with a well struck penalty. This was followed by a fine individual try scored by Lewis Hole outpacing the opposition cover on the counterattack. Dan Retter added the conversion.

In first half injury time New Cross reduced the arrears when their outside centre crossed after a long period of pressure on the Sidmouth line. The halftime score was 10-5.

The Quins regained control after the restart and extended their lead when Jack Hembrow dribbled a loose ball over the line and won the chase for the touchdown. The try was unconverted. A third try followed minutes later when Lewis Hole again showed his pace for another individual run from halfway. Dan Retter converted.

New Cross took control in the final quarter through their forwards, helped by an increasing penalty by the Quins. They added three tries, the last eight minutes into injury time. The final conversion attempt was unsuccessful and a draw was a fair reflection of the balance of play.

On Saturday the Quins travel to Okehampton for a rearranged league game. Meanwhile, the Colts travel to Barnstaple for a Devon Colts cup game.
