SIDMOUTH XV 33 - 26 PRESIDENT'S XV

The President's XV got off to a flying start, and the Chiefs got an early wake up call, with a spectacular individual try scored by fly half Cam Hunt who left a trail of players in his wake in a solo run from halfway. The try was converted.

Sidmouth equalised on the quarter hour when Dan Armstrong followed up a kick ahead into the 22 to crash over wide out. Rory O'Brien added the conversion. Midway through the half, O'Brien exploited a gap in midfield following a series of rucks near the line to cut through and touch down for a try he converted himself to put his side ahead. The President's seemed to have scored following a good handling move when Lewis Hillier crossed in the left corner but he was unable to ground the ball.

The Chiefs went further ahead when Scott Henderson took a short pass at speed to cut through the centre and sprint clear from halfway.

The President's reduced the arrears in the last minute of the half when Richie Drewett intercepted a loose pass in his own 22 and outpaced the cover to for a converted try.

The Chiefs opened the second half in fine style with a slick handling move to send Sam Basnett in for an unconverted try. A similar move was stopped just short of the line but a forward was on hand to dribble over and touch down for another converted try.

The Presidents dominated the final quarter to score two tries and close the gap to seven points. James Salter burrowed over from close range and another forward scored in similar fashion after a lineout catch-and-drive play had been stopped just short of the line. The first of these was converted.

On Saturday the Chiefs entertain Lydney kicking off at 2.30pm.

The Quins travel to play Exeter Athletic.
