Under 13's | Sidmouth v Withycombe |15th March

What a great performance !If that is our last game of the season then we should be happy coaches and parents. We had 28 players this morning, I’d almost guarantee no other club had such depth this morning, who have all progressed in their rugby and most importantly played as a team. We always learn when we lose and today I think we put some of the learnings into action. Last time we played Withycombe at our ground in Sept. we were outplayed – today we rucked with intent, handled the ball well in wet conditions, linked up with supporting runs, put pressure on them and turned defence into attack – key learnings from previous games.

Moments that stood out today, and there are plenty others, included:

- Will Allen/Dillon B hunting down their players to get extra tackles in,

- Joe Anning/Charley T link up with Tom Bird to score,

- Reece’s kicking into space to put pressure back on them,

- Toby’s tackling of their fly half,

- Archie’s rampaging try, and,

- Alexander G playing at scrum half for the first time with great delivery.

Overall our scrums were solid and we worked hard around the pitch to get the ball wide. If we always deliver on our restarts, scrum well and get the ball wide we’ll have lots of enjoyable matches.

As coaches, despite the rain and not being allowed to hug each other(!), we left with big smiles and hopefully with no additional viruses.
